If you've been podcasting for a while, you may have noticed a drop in your downloads and wondered what you're doing wrong. It's easy to get worried when we see lower numbers than we're used to. But the reality is that those numbers from the past were actually inflated and never an accurate reflection of your show's real success.
In 2023, Apple made a major change and removed auto-downloads for subscribers. This shift means that downloads now only reflect active listeners, giving us a clearer picture of our audience.
However, this can feel like a big hit on a perception basis with the metrics showing our numbers significantly less than they were a year or two ago. So, how do we move forward and redefine success beyond just the download numbers?
